Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Berlin, the capital of Germany, on Monday for a three-day Europe tour. PM Modi received a grand welcome at the airport. In the hotel, PM Modi interacted with the people of the Indian community. A Guard of honor was also given to PM Modi. After this, he met the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz. This is the first meeting of the prime minister since Scholz became chancellor.

After this, PM Modi will co-chair the 6th India-Germany Intergovernmental Consultation IGC. This is a special program that India does only with Germany. IGC was started in 2011. It is an exclusive biennial mechanism that allows the governments of both countries to coordinate on a wide range of bilateral issues. Many ministers of both countries will also participate in this program. The Ministry of External Affairs said that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will also participate in the meeting.

Ahead of his departure, Prime Minister Modi had said in a statement that his visit to Berlin would provide an opportunity for talks with Chancellor Scholz, whom he met at the G20 last year when he was vice-chancellor and finance minister. Prime Minister Modi said that in the year 2021, India and Germany celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations and the countries have been strategic partners since 2000. PM Modi also has a program to address businessmen and people of the Indian community today.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that this visit will prepare a blueprint for the future of strengthening relations between India and Germany. Significantly, after Berlin, the Prime Minister will visit Denmark on May 3, where he will hold bilateral talks with his counterpart Mette Frederiksen. There he will participate in the 2nd India-Nordic Summit. On the last leg of his visit, Prime Minister Modi will make a brief stay in France, where he will meet French President Emmanuel Macron.
