Jahangirpuri Violence: Delhi Police arrested two more accused, 32 arrested so far

Police have arrested two more accused in connection with the communal clashes that took place during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Delhi's Jahangirpuri area on April 16. A senior police officer said that the Delhi Police arrested Younus (48), the brother of Salim Chikna (who has already been arrested), and Sheikh Salim (22). He told that both are residents of Jahangirpuri. With the arrest of these two, a total of 32 people, including three minors, have been arrested in this case so far.

 

A senior police officer said that CCTV cameras being probed showed Yunus distributing a sword to the mob, while Salim was seen taking the sword from Yunus. He said that our team identified both the accused based on CCTV footage. Both had fled soon after the violence but were caught in the Jahangirpuri area on Sunday night. Another criminal case is registered against Yunus.

Let us tell you that during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in the Jahangirpuri area of ​​Delhi, there was a clash between two communities on April 16, in which eight policemen and a resident were injured. According to the police, stone-pelting and arson took place during the clashes, and some vehicles were also torched. Days after the violence, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana wrote to the Enforcement Directorate to probe the money laundering charges against the main accused in the case. Police have imposed National Security Act (NSA) on five accused in the case.
