There has been a new revelation in the visa fraud case in the French Embassy. Officials have told that the visa files of 64 high-risk persons related to the case have disappeared from the embassy itself. It is alleged that Shubham Shokeen and Aarti Mandal, former embassy officials, had allegedly extorted Rs 32 lakh at the rate of Rs 50,000 per visa by approving files of dubious candidates. The probe agency suspects that Mandal and Shokeen allegedly destroyed documents and files of the visa department, leaving no evidence related to the fraud, officials said.
Recently a case of granting a visa based on fake documents came to light in the French Embassy. After this, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday registered a case against six people, including two employees of the visa department of the French Embassy, and arrested them. The accused have been identified as Shubham Shokeen, Aarti Mandal, Navjot Singh, Chetan Sharma, Satwinder Singh Purewal, Manpreet Singh, and others. Shubham and Aarti worked in the visa department of the French Embassy in New Delhi.
Played 32 lakhs in five months
This whole matter is from January to May. It is alleged that between January 1 and May 6, Shubham Shokeen and Aarti Mondal handled 484 visa-related files, of which 64 were related to high-risk immigration individuals. This included individuals like young farmers or the unemployed from Punjab, who had never traveled before and did not have the profile to hold a Schengen visa.
Raids have been done at many places
Earlier, the CBI had conducted raids in Punjab, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir on Friday in this case. During this, documents and electronic evidence like a laptop, mobile phone, suspicious passport, etc. were recovered. The CBI alleges that three other accused - Navjot Singh of Jammu and Kashmir and Chetan Sharma and Satvinder Singh Purewal of Punjab, all three had submitted fake and forged letters allegedly written by Maersk Fleet Management & Technology India Pvt Ltd.
