Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport on Wednesday. He will also present the underground Metro-3 Aqua Line to the residents of the city. The Prime Minister will be in Maharashtra on October 8th and 9th, inaugurating and dedicating several development projects.

According to the Prime Minister's Office, PM Modi will arrive in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and inspect the Navi Mumbai International Airport. He will then inaugurate the airport at 3:30 p.m. Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and dedicate various projects in Mumbai and address a public meeting. PM Modi will also meet with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in Mumbai. During the meeting, he will hold meetings to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. In view of this, PM Modi's two-day visit to Mumbai, the country's financial capital, is considered crucial.

The airport, built at a cost of ₹19,650 crore, will bring positive change to the lives of millions of people.

The Prime Minister's Office stated that the Navi Mumbai International Airport is poised to bring positive change to the lives of millions of people. The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), built at a cost of ₹19,650 crore, is India's largest greenfield airport project. Developed under a public-private partnership (PPP), NMIA will serve as the second international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, alongside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). This will reduce congestion and integrate Mumbai into the global multi-airport system. With an area of 1,160 hectares, Navi Mumbai International Airport is designed to be one of the most efficient airports in the world. It will eventually handle 90 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and 3.25 million metric tons of cargo. Its unique features include an Automated People Mover (APM), a transport system that will connect all four passenger terminals for smooth inter-terminal transfers, and a landside APM that will connect the city's infrastructure. In line with sustainable practices, the airport will feature dedicated storage for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), approximately 47 MW of solar power generation, and EV bus services for public connectivity throughout the city. NMIA will also be the first airport in the country to be connected by water taxis.

Underground Metro to Run from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade

PM Modi will also inaugurate Phase 2B of Mumbai Metro Line 3, extending from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, constructed at an estimated cost of approximately ₹12,200 crore. He will also dedicate the entire Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line), built at a cost of over ₹37,220 crore, marking a milestone in urban transportation. As Mumbai's first and only fully underground metro line, this project will redefine mobility in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and provide faster, more efficient, and modern transportation solutions for millions of residents.

Mumbai Metro Line 3, stretching 33.5 kilometers from Cuffe Parade to Aarey JVLR, has 27 stations.

It will serve 1.3 million passengers daily. The final Phase 2B of the project will provide direct access to South Mumbai's heritage and cultural sites, such as Fort, Kala Ghoda, and Marine Drive, as well as key administrative and financial centers, including the Bombay High Court, Mantralaya, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), and Nariman Point.

Metro Line 3 is designed to ensure efficient integration with other modes of transport, including railways, airports, other metro lines, and monorail services, thereby improving connectivity and reducing congestion in the metropolitan area.

Unified, Common Mobility App Mumbai One to Also Launch

The Prime Minister will also launch Mumbai One, a unified common mobility app for 11 public transport operators (PTOs) across the metro, monorail, suburban railways, and bus routes. These include Mumbai Metro Line 2A and 7, Mumbai Metro Line 3, Mumbai Metro Line 1, Mumbai Monorail, Navi Mumbai Metro, Mumbai Suburban Railway, Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST), Thane Municipal Transport, Mira-Bhayander Municipal Transport, Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Transport, and Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport. The Mumbai One app will offer a host of benefits to commuters, including integrated mobile ticketing for multiple public transport operators, eliminating queues by promoting digital transactions, and seamless multi-modal connectivity through a single dynamic ticket for travel across multiple modes of transport.
