BJP defends Chief Electoral Officer
The BJP defended the Chief Electoral Officer, saying his remarks were legally and constitutionally correct. BJP chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi said that under the law, any person who is a citizen of India and is not restricted by any law can select to become a voter in any area, state, or union territory where He usually lives.
'Opposition misrepresenting the matter
Sethi said that the same has been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir. After the abrogation of most of the provisions of Article 370, there should be one India one law. He accused the opposition of misrepresenting the matter. Referring to the abrogation of special status from Jammu and Kashmir, Sethi said, "They want a kind of exception in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which is not acceptable." The people of Jammu and Kashmir have accepted the decision (as of August 5, 2019) without any exception or reservation. Political parties have to understand this and accept it.
