Tensions have escalated in West Bengal following the crushing defeat of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the state. The TMC alleges that BJP supporters have unleashed violence in several locations under the guise of ‘Poriborton’ (change). Shops near the New Market area were vandalized, and the Trinamool Congress office was targeted.
In response to these developments, the TMC has alleged that, contrary to the promises with which the BJP came to power, an atmosphere of fear and violence is currently prevailing on the ground. The party characterized these events not as a celebration of victory, but as an act of ‘terror.’ Opposition leaders further alleged that central forces failed to intervene during this period, allowing the situation to deteriorate.
Serious Allegations Leveled Against Modi and Shah
The TMC’s allegations assert that the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have granted party workers a free rein, enabling them to engage in violence on the streets.
The opposition warns that this situation could become even more grave; while shops are currently being targeted, political opponents and ordinary citizens could face similar threats in the future. Although these allegations remain independently unverified, they have significantly heightened political tensions within the state.
TMC Announces Protest
The Trinamool Congress has declared that it will firmly stand its ground against such incidents and will not yield to any form of pressure. Labeling these events as ‘state-sponsored violence,’ the party has announced its intention to stage protests. Reports indicate that a Trinamool Congress office in Jagatballavpur was set ablaze, further exacerbating the already alarming situation.
Police Also Come Under Attack
Meanwhile, a tense situation persists in the Bamangheri area, located within the Sarberia-Agarhati Gram Panchayat of the North 24 Parganas district. A joint patrol team comprising local police and central forces was conducting rounds in the area during the night. Reports suggest that, during this patrol, unidentified individuals opened fire on the police team. Following this incident, security in the area has been further tightened, and the situation is being closely monitored.
