Gurgaon, Feb 7 (IANS) People in Gurgaon blocked traffic on the busy Sohna road Saturday in protest after a 21-year-old man committed suicide due to alleged harassment by the police.

The protest led to heavy traffic snarls on the Gurgaon-Sohna road.

Hotelier Manish Yadav, a resident of Fazilpur village, committed suicide in his house Saturday. His body was found hanging from a ceiling fan.

Alleging that Yadav took the extreme step because he was being harassed by a police officer, the protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the accused officer.

Five people, including the deceased, had been booked for attacking two policemen Jan 7. They were booked under charges of attempt to murder and others for allegedly attacking policemen near Fazilpur chowk while they were checking vehicles.

"The investigation officer in the case was demanding rupees five lakh to exclude his (deceased) name from the FIR and was harassing him badly," Yadav's uncle told reporters.

Yadav was rushed to a private hospital after a family member found him hanging. He was declared brought dead by doctors.

People, along with the kin of the deceased, gathered at Fazilpur chowk and blocked the traffic. The protest was on till late afternoon.

A post-mortem examination could not be conducted as the deceased's relatives did not claim the body from a private hospital, seeking action against the accused police officer.
