PVR to Host Oscar Film Fest in 23 Indian Cities

New Delhi, Feb 6 (IANS) Before Hollywood aficionados in India sit down to watch the forthcoming 87th Academy Awards ceremony on TV screens later this month, PVR Cinemas is offering fans a chance to watch a string of Oscar-nominated movies on its screens across 23 cities.

At what's being called the PVR Oscar Film Festival, starting Friday till Feb 12, the cinema chain is bringing globally acclaimed movies, which have been nominated for this year’s Academy Awards to cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Chandigarh, Nagpur, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Kochi, among others.

“The Academy Awards have a special place in the hearts of film connoisseurs. People from the film fraternity as well the audience look up to the Academy Awards for the quality cinema that it entails," Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, joint managing director, PVR Ltd, said in a statement.

The PVR Oscar Film Festival is hosted to provide variation in content in the country by bringing to the Indian cinema exhibition space the best by global standards.

The multiplexes are expected to witness heavy footfalls during the fest, where movies like "Mr. Turner", "Foxcatcher", "Gone Girl", "The Imitation Game" and "Interstellar" will be showcased.

The Oscar awards ceremony, to be held in Los Angeles Feb 22, will be beamed live on Indian TV early Feb 23 morning (local time).
