It is becoming difficult for the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to achieve the target of constructing 12,000 km of highways this year. In November, the ministry was successful in building 706 km of highways, but till now this figure has reached only 4760 km.

Nitin Gadkari told in the Lok Sabha

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Thursday that in this financial year (2022-23), ahead of the target of construction of 12 thousand kilometers of highways, 4760 kilometers of road construction has been completed till November.

4060-kilometer road construction till October

Earlier, in its monthly report, the ministry had informed about the construction of 4060 km of roads till October. Gadkari told Parliament that apart from the construction of highways and expressways, 35 multi-modal logistics parks are also being built under the Bharatmala project. These parks will prove to be hubs of large-scale distribution with warehousing.

Identification of 191 crowded places

According to Gadkari, 191 congestion points have been identified across the network under the Bharatmala project. Under the project to end the problem of jams at these places, the problem has been solved at 56 places, while work is going on at 83 places. The allocation of work at the remaining 52 places will be given in the financial year 2024-25. Responding to another question, Gadkari said that in the last three years, 1,432,294 trees have been cut or removed for National Highway projects.
