Rahul's tour continues amid Manipur violence, will meet the affected today; Three 'rioters' killed in Kangpokpi

Manipur Violence Three suspected rioters, who were injured in a gunbattle with security personnel in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Thursday morning, have died. At least five people were also injured in the firing. The army said that armed rioters fired without provocation in Harothel village.

The army said the security forces personnel responded well to deal with the situation. Another rioter is also believed to have been killed, but the body is yet to be retrieved as intermittent firing is going on at the spot, he said.

 

Rahul left for Moirang from Imphal

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is on a two-day visit to Manipur, left Imphal for Moirang this morning. According to Congress state president Keesham Meghchandra, he will visit relief camps and meet the affected people there.

 

Later, Rahul will return to Imphal and meet 10 like-minded party leaders, United Naga Council (UNC) leaders, and members of civil society organizations.

The number of army personnel has increased after the violence in Kangpokpi. The army says that the rioters are firing without provocation, which has been retaliated.

 

More than 100 people have died in Manipur so far

Violence in Manipur is not taking the name of stopping for the last month. So far 100 people have died in the counter-attack by the rioters and the army. Even today the incident of firing has come to the fore in Kangpokpi.
