Global payment service provider Worldline has joined hands with NPCI International Payments to expand the acceptance of Indian payment instruments across Europe. NPCI International Payments is the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) - which operates digital payments in India.
Under this partnership, Worldline will provide more convenience for Indian customers in European markets by allowing merchant point-of-sale (POS) systems to accept payments via UPI. Along with this, the facility of RuPay, which is a card service owned by NPCI, will also be made available. A joint statement in this regard was issued by both institutions on Tuesday.
It is believed that considering the increase in the number of Indian tourists and expenditure in European countries, this partnership will bring a lot of benefits to the merchants concerned with the customers. Presently Indian customers have to pay through an international card network.
The hugely popular UPI allows access to multiple bank accounts through a single mobile application, the service will enhance the customer experience while opening up new business possibilities for the merchants, said a joint statement by Worldline and NPCI.
"Our partnership with NPCI International seeks to minimize the risk of preventing or limiting Indian customers from using secure electronic payments in the EU," Worldline Deputy CEO Mark Henry Desports said in a statement.
Let us inform you that 38.74 billion transactions have been registered on NPCI's UPI platform so far. An amount of about US$ 954.58 billion has been transacted through this. This makes it the best-performing real-time payments ecosystem in the world. Similarly, 714 million RuPay cards have been issued so far, with over 1.3 billion transactions.
We believe this partnership will empower Indian consumers to continue using their preferred payment mode as they travel across Europe, Ritesh Shukla, CEO, of NPCI International Payments said in a statement.
