The Karnataka government has ordered all schools and colleges in the state to make the national anthem mandatory in the morning prayers. This order will be applicable in all government, aided, and non-government schools in the state. This decision of the BJP government of Karnataka is being described as a big decision after the recent Savarkar vs Tipu Sultan poster controversy in many cities. At the same time, the wind of nationalism in the nation is also being linked with the move to give direction. However, the Karnataka Education Act, 1983 has clear rules regarding the national anthem.

According to The Hindu, as per Section-7(2)(G)(i) of the Karnataka Education Act, 1983, respecting the national flag and singing the national anthem regularly in the morning mass prayer is mandatory in all schools. But the problem was that some private schools were not following this rule. In such a situation, the government issued an order on Wednesday and warned such schools.

The Deputy Director, Department of Public Instruction, Bangalore-North and South had visited some private schools in the past. During this, he found that in some institutions the national anthem was not being sung in the morning prayers. After this, the government issued an order warning the schools about the necessity of the national anthem. Meanwhile, singing the national anthem inside the classroom has been allowed for some institutes citing space constraints.

Let us tell you that the national anthem of India is 'Jana Gana Mana', which awakens the feeling of patriotism among the people. It was originally written in the Bengali language by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Adopted by the Government of India as the national anthem on 24 January 1950. Its singing duration is fixed at about 52 seconds. Also, there are some rules for singing it, which are mandatory to follow.
