Questions have been raised on the security agencies after the IED bomb was found in East Delhi's Ghazipur Phool Mandi before 26 January. Meanwhile, Delhi Police also claimed on Saturday that the Intelligence Department had not given any input regarding the possibility of explosives in Ghazipur Phool Mandi. A senior Delhi Police official said that no specific intelligence input was received regarding explosives in Ghazipur Phool Mandi.
He said intelligence agencies regularly issue terror alerts and advise for extensive patrolling and other security measures preparedness before any major day like Independence Day or Republic Day, but this time, in the Ghazipur area of East Delhi. There was no specific alert about any terror plot in the state.
"We are waiting for the forensic report regarding the identity of the explosive to ascertain whether it was a mischievous act or some terrorist organization is behind it," he said. However, intelligence agencies have claimed to have issued terror alerts in several states including Delhi and Punjab regarding possible terror attacks.
According to intelligence agencies, the terror alert states that several terrorist organizations are planning to carry out possible terror attacks in many parts of the country, especially during and before elections in North Indian states.
All units of Delhi Police and Central Intelligence Agencies have been put on alert after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) filled with RDX and Ammonium Nitrate was found inside an unclaimed bag at Ghazipur Phool Mandi in East Delhi and their senior officers investigated. Talked to each other for better coordination.
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing about five kilograms and some Indian currency notes were hidden in a bag lying on the Attari-Bachwind road in Punjab's Amritsar near the India-Pakistan border on Friday.
Intelligence agencies are also checking whether the IED recovered from Punjab has any connection with the explosives recovered in Delhi as RDX is present in both cases. It is feared that the explosive recovered in Ghazipur was taken from Punjab.
A senior police officer said that forensic teams have also collected samples from the Ghazipur Market area for more information in the case. Delhi Police has been directed that CCTVs installed in public places should be in working condition.
