
New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS) Eminent singer, composer and lyricist Shekhar Sen has been named chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, an official statement said Thursday.
According to an order issued by the ministry of culture Jan 28, Sen has been appointed as the chairman for a "term of five years with immediate effect".
"Sen has done many research oriented musical programmes and has rendered many significant bhajan albums since 1983 as singer, lyricist and composer. He is famous for his mono act musical plays 'Tulsi', 'Kabeer', 'Vivekananda', 'Sanmanti', 'Saahab' and 'Soordas' which have been highly acclaimed," a culture ministry statement said.
Sen has received prestigious awards including the Padma Shri and state level awards, the statement added.
