On the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) announcement of nearly $2.9 billion in loans to Sri Lanka, India on Thursday said it has been advocating aid to the beleaguered country, though issues of "lender equity and transparency" remain important. The IMF has agreed to give a loan of $ 2.9 billion over four years to Sri Lanka, which is facing a severe economic crisis, under a preliminary agreement. This will help Sri Lanka to overcome the economic problem and protect the livelihood of the people.
In this regard, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "We have seen the IMF's release regarding the agreement. It aims at macroeconomic stability, debt sustainability, protection of affected people, and expediting organizational reforms.
