Sri Lanka Economic Crisis: Fuel becomes costlier for the third time in a month; the US will help to get out of the economic crisis

Sri Lanka again hiked fuel prices on Sunday. For the third time in a month, the government has increased the rates of fuel. Meanwhile, America has also become active to get Sri Lanka out of the economic crisis. A team of American officers has reached Colombo.

 

Earlier, Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera had said – there will be a delay in the arrival of new shipments of oil. A day after this, oil prices have increased.

 

Diesel 15% and Petrol 22% costlier

 

According to Ceylon Petroleum Corporation- Diesel prices have increased by 15%. Now the price of diesel has reached 460 Sri Lankan rupees per liter. Petrol prices have been increased by 22%. Now it has become 550 Sri Lankan rupees per liter.

Vijesekera said – Oil did not come last week. Next week also the shipment will not be able to arrive due to payment issues. There is an appeal to the people not to stand in long lines outside the petrol pump. Many people have left their vehicles outside the petrol pump.

 

Officials say that there is enough fuel available in Sri Lanka for about two days, but it is being saved for essential services.

The government has decided to implement a token system for people standing in long lines outside petrol pumps. It will be started on Monday. The responsibility for implementing this will be of Sri Lanka Police and Army. When the number is received, the drivers will be informed about this by calling them. Energy Minister Vijesekera said that four different groups of the ministry are working on oil imports. After the token system, people will not have to stand in line for a long time.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in Parliament that the times ahead could be more difficult. Wickremesinghe said- Our economy has completely collapsed. We are now grappling more with issues like lack of fuel, gas, electricity, and food.

America has also extended a helping hand amid the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka. In the recent two weeks, America has given the help of 1200 crores.
