Amidst the deteriorating economic situation in Sri Lanka, the emergency imposed for the second time has been lifted. Emergency was declared in the country on 6 May. Before this, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had also imposed an emergency on 1 April. However, amidst heavy protests, the Emergency was lifted five days later i.e. on 6 April.

At the same time, the new Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has warned of food shortages in the country. He said that till the next sowing season, we will arrange enough fertilizers to increase the yield of the crops. So that the food demand for the 22 million (22 million) population of the country can be met.

In April last year, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa banned all chemical fertilizers. This decision resulted in a huge reduction in crop yields. Later the government withdrew its decision, but by then it was too late.

Protests intensify against the Rajapaksa government

Protests against the Rajapaksa government in Sri Lanka intensified on Friday. The protesters are camping outside the Parliament and the Rashtrapati Niwas. The police chased them by lathi-charge, in some places the police also fired tear gas shells. People in Sri Lanka are troubled by the energy crisis. In Colombo, people are waiting in line for LPG cylinders for 3-4 days. The government is distributing only 200 cylinders daily.

Standing in a queue waiting for cooking gas, Shajli says how can we cook without gas, without kerosene? In a few days, we will start dying of hunger.
