Stampede in Khatushyam, death of 3 women: People were in line since night for darshan, a stampede broke out as soon as the doors opened on Ekadashi

A stampede broke out at Khatushyam temple in Sikar, Rajasthan on Monday morning. 3 women died in the accident. 4 people have been injured.

 

The accident happened at 5:00 in the morning when there was a huge crowd of devotees for darshan on the occasion of Ekadashi. Devotees were in line late at night. As soon as the doors of the temple opened in the morning, a stampede broke out.

 

The name of the woman killed in the accident is Shanti Devi. The identity of the two is yet to be ascertained. The bodies have been kept in the mortuary of Khatushyamji Hospital, where their post-mortem will be done.

 

Situation under control, Darshan resumes - Police

 

Police said that a huge crowd had gathered outside the temple. As soon as the gates of the temple opened, people started pushing each other and moving forward. Some people told that in the scuffle, a woman fell unconscious. Due to this the people coming behind also started falling. On receiving the news of the stampede, the police team reached the temple and took care of the situation. Darshan in the temple has resumed.

 

PM and CM expressed grief

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said I am saddened by the death of devotees in the stampede at Khatu Shyamji. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has expressed grief over the accident. He said his condolences to the families of the three women killed in the accident. He wished the injured a speedy recovery.

 

There is a long line of many kilometers in the temple.

 

Shivcharan (50), Manohar (40), Indra Devi (55) of Karnal, and Anoji (40) of Alwar were injured in the stampede. Manohar's condition is critical. He has been referred to Jaipur. Lakhs of devotees reach the monthly fair of Khatushyam Ji. Due to the closure of the rail, devotees have to queue for several kilometers.
