Story by Jailed Former MP included in Textbook

Patna, Jan 16 (IANS) A story written in Hindi by former Bihar MP Anand Mohan, serving life term for the 1994 lynching of Gopalganj district magistrate G. Krishnaiah, has been included in a Class VIII text book.

The story - Parvat Purush Dashrath -(Mountain man Dashrath) forms chapter 19 of the book published by Central Board of Secondary Education.

"The story by Anand Mohan is in the Madhurika Hindi Pathmala's 19th chapter for CBSE students," a leader close to Anand Mohan said.

It is a story of 'Mountain Man' Dasrath Manjhi, who is known for single-handedly cutting through a hill to make a road.

Working day and night, Dasrath Manjhi had carved out a 360-feet-long, 30-feet-high and 30-feet-wide passage through a hill near Gahlaur with a hammer and chisel.

He died in 2007 after battling cancer.

The hill was between Attari and Wazirgunj blocks in Gaya district. Manjhi began his uphill task when his wife was injured and he had to take a detour around the mountains to reach the nearest hospital.

Anand Mohan has written two books in Hindi during his stay in Saharsa jail in Bihar.Both of his books-Kaid mein Azad kalam and Swadhin Abhivayakti were published.

Anand Mohan, known for wielding his muscle-power, and 35 others were accused of lynching Krishnaiah Dec 5, 1994. They had instigating the mob that lynched Krishnaiah.

The trial court Oct 3, 2007 awarded death sentence to three accused, including Anand Mohan, and life sentence to four others.

On appeal, the Patna High Court upheld the conviction of Anand Mohan but commuted his death sentence to life imprisonment later.

Anand Mohan is lodged in Saharsa district jail for the last eight years.
