The Supreme Court said, in a heinous crime having a grave impact on society, FIR cannot be quashed on the ground of agreement between the victim, the offender, or the complainant. If this is done then a dangerous precedent will be set and people will file complaints just to extort money from the accused.

The bench set aside the orders of the Gujarat High Court. These include an order in which the FIR lodged in March 2020 on the charge of abetment to suicide was quashed.
