New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the Central Government to place on record the relevant documents, file notings, showing its views on the Covid-19 vaccination policy. The court asked the Center to present the complete figures giving details of the purchase of all the vaccines of Covid-19.
Supreme Court asks states to tell whether they are giving free vaccine? Information on the treatment of mucormycosis has also been asked to be given. The matter will be heard on June 30.
"We direct the central government to file an affidavit within two weeks," a special bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, LN Rao, and S Ravindra Bhatt said. A separate answer should be given on each issue.
The bench said, "Complete data concerning the details of the Central Government on the purchase of all the vaccines (Covaccine, Covishield, and Sputnik V) of Covid-19 till date. The figures should state: (a) the dates of all orders placed by the central government for the purchase of the three vaccines, (b) the quantity of vaccines ordered on each date, and (c) the proposed date of supply The top court has given this order in a case taken suo motu on the management of Covid-19.
Earlier on May 31, the Supreme Court made a sharp comment on the Covid vaccination policy. The top court had said that the Center should not think that only it knows what is right.
A bench of Supreme Court Justices DY Chandrachud, L Nageswara Rao and S Ravindra Bhatt had said, "Considering the high risk to the health of people above 45 years of age, the Center gave the vaccine. Are such people in the age group of 18 to 44?" Who is more at risk from Corona?"
The court further said, "The states have been left to fight among themselves for waxing. The Center did not even consider the difference in the economic condition of a large state like Maharashtra and any state in the North-East. The budget of many states of the country is less than that of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
