new Delhi. The country has been under lockdown for 50 days due to Coronavirus. This lockdown has broken the back of the economy. A large number of workers have lost their jobs due to the shutdown. According to a survey, 67 percent of the people have lost their jobs due to the lockdown. It is two-thirds of the total population. According to the survey, 8 out of 10 workers in urban areas and 6 out of 10 workers in rural areas have become unemployed. At the same time, the sad part is that due to the lockdown, 74 percent people are forced to eat less according to need.
The Center for Sustainable Employment (CSE) of Azim Premji University has done this survey in collaboration with 10 civic social organizations. Between 13 April and 9 May, this survey has been done by talking to 4000 people over the phone. Under this survey was conducted to get information about the employment and government schemes in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, UP, West Bengal. Its report was published on Tuesday. In this survey, it has been found that about 61 percent of the families do not have enough money to buy a week's ration.
Dr. Rosa Abraham, Research Fellow of the Center for Sustainable Employment (CSE), says, "In view of the prevailing circumstances, it was necessary that we talk to the most vulnerable sections. We wanted to know what problems people are facing during the lockdown. Therefore, this survey was conducted with the help of civic social organizations. In the survey, we have focused on three points - impact on their work employment, impact on their homes and access to government relief.
In an interview, Dr. Abraham says, 'Health is being affected by the lockdown. Most of the people said that because of work being stopped, they do not have enough money to buy everyday food and drink. People are forced to eat less as per their requirement. Going forward, these people will become the problem of malnutrition. Girls will be more affected by this.
