Sanjay Manjrekar urges the BCCI to take action against Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal: “Letting them off sets a dangerous precedent.”

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has called on the ICC and BCCI to take stronger action following recent on-field controversies involving Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

In a post on X, Manjrekar tagged both cricket governing bodies and argued that repeatedly overlooking such incidents could encourage similar behavior in the future. He said the issue could ultimately be harmful to both the players and the sport.

Jaiswal-Fernando Incident in Colombo

Jaiswal was involved in a heated exchange with Sri Lankan fast bowler Asitha Fernando during the second Test in Colombo.

After Fernando dismissed Jaiswal, the Sri Lankan bowler gave him a send-off. Jaiswal subsequently approached Fernando, leading to a confrontation in which their helmets made contact.

The ICC later fined both players 25% of their match fees and awarded one demerit point each.

Jaiswal subsequently defended his reaction, saying that people should not judge the incident without knowing what Fernando had allegedly said to him.

Suryavanshi Has Also Been Involved in Controversies

Manjrekar's comments also refer to recent incidents involving teenage batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

In one incident involving Sri Lanka A, an argument between Suryavanshi and Sri Lankan player Vishen Halambage escalated into physical contact. Manjrekar had previously criticized the incident and said that, had he been part of the India A management, he would have considered dropping Suryavanshi from the next match.

Suryavanshi was also involved in a heated exchange with Pakistan's Ali Raza during an Under-19 match after his dismissal.

Manjrekar Warns Against Setting a Precedent

Manjrekar's latest comments highlight a broader concern about discipline and player conduct in international and representative cricket.

His argument is that allowing repeated incidents to pass without meaningful consequences could make players more likely to repeat such behavior. The former cricketer has therefore urged the ICC and BCCI to address the issue firmly.
