SPG decides up-gradation of cars
Upgradation of a new car is usually done by the Special Protection Group (SPG), which looks after the security of the Prime Minister of the country and his family. The SPG decides whether the Head of State requires a vehicle upgrade, taking into account the safety requirements. In such a situation, now the vehicles in PM Modi's convoy have been upgraded. The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard has been upgraded from the Range Rover Vogue and Toyota Land Cruiser.
When PM Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he used to travel in bulletproof Mahindra Scorpio. After becoming the Prime Minister in 2014, he used the BMW 7 Series High-Security Edition. After that, the car continued to be upgraded from time to time because of their safety.
