The remaining 31 matches of IPL will be held in UAE: BCCI will also talk to their board about foreign players; ICC will ask for time till June for a decision on T20 World Cup

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved the decision to hold the remaining 31 matches of IPL 2021 in UAE in the Special General Meeting (SGM) held today. The board's vice-chairman Rajiv Shukla and secretary Jai Shah confirmed it. The board said that the September-October window has been kept in mind for this. UAE is also happy to have IPL matches on its 3 grounds in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai.

Since the suspension of the IPL 2021 season, Bhaskar has been saying that BCCI can get the remaining matches of IPL in September. It was also decided in the meeting that in the coming days, the board will also talk to the foreign players' board about foreign players. The English board has already placed restrictions on the players.

The International Cricket Council is scheduled to meet on 1 June regarding the T20 World Cup. The BCCI will ask for the meeting till June to decide on hosting the World Cup. The board will also review the situation of Covid-19 in India before taking any decision regarding the World Cup.

Big things came out in BCCI SGM

The BCCI has looked for a 25-day window for the IPL. The remaining 31 matches will be in the UAE's 3 Grounds. According to the board, Emirates Cricket Board is also happy with this.

The board will hold talks with other boards regarding foreign players. However, the absence of foreign players will not affect the IPL. The IPL will be on any condition and the deal with UAE will continue.

The board will seek a month from the ICC for the T20 World Cup. During this corona, the review will also be done. The BCCI source said that the board wants the World Cup to be held in India. There are currently 4 months left in the World Cup to be held in October. In such a situation, corona in India can improve in a few days.

There was no discussion in SGM on the issue of payment to domestic players. 700 players were affected due to the canceled Ranji session due to Covid-19.

The BCCI had assured financial assistance to the players in January last year but did not disclose its method.

According to sources, one of the state associations had raised the issue of the remaining salary of domestic cricketers, but Sourav Ganguly and Rajiv Shukla rejected it as not being part of the agenda.

There was also a discussion on tax exemption for hosting the World Cup. Talks are on with the central government in this regard. The board is confident that the government will relieve them of tax in this case.

Preparation medium for IPL T20 World Cup

The remaining 31 matches of the IPL can start from 18 or 19 September. At the same time, the tournament finals can be played on 9 or 10 October. There can be 7 single, 10 doubleheader matches in the league round within 21 days. Apart from this, 4 play-off matches including Qualifier-1, Qualifier-2, Eliminator, and Final will also be played.

A BCCI official said that while we are also looking at the September-October window, we need to discuss in detail the logistics as well as any other challenges. The completion of the IPL just before the World Cup can become a medium for players preparing for the T20 World Cup. The T20 World Cup can be started from October 18.

IPL can get direct entry in the T-20 World Cup bio bubble

With UAE being a safe option, players will not have trouble coming to India to enter the bio bubble. Players will be able to enter the Bubble of the Direct World Cup from the IPL bubble. The players got direct entry into the IPL bubble after the India-England series in March. However, on the issue of direct entry from bubble to bubble, the ICC may take a final decision in the meeting to be held on 1 June.

9 cities were asked to prepare for the World Cup

At its last Apex Council meeting in April, the board selected 9 places for the T20 World Cup. These include Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dharamshala, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow. Out of these, IPL 2021 season matches were also held in 6 states. But after 29 matches in the middle season, the league had to be suspended after some players came to Corona positive. The board said that all the state associations have been asked to keep complete preparation.

Consideration of conducting T20 World Cup with IPL in UAE

The sword has been hanging over India for hosting the T20 World Cup since the IPL was suspended due to Corona. The ICC has also kept UAE as an option for backup. In such a situation, the Board may consider taking the time till June, if the situation worsens with Corona, then the IPL, as well as the hosting of the World Cup, should be given to the UAE.

How can ICC conduct World Cup in UAE?

The UAE has 3 international cricket stadiums in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. In the event of the World Cup being held in the UAE, all the knockout matches and finals of the IPL can be held on the same ground. In such a situation, except for one stadium, the remaining 2 stadiums can be handed over to the ICC about 15 days in advance. With this, ICC will also be able to start preparing for the T20 World Cup. At the same time, the third ground can also be handed over to the ICC about a week before the IPL final on 9 or 10.

Discussion on revenue and tax also

The board also has to generate revenue for the T20 World Cup. Recently, there was also a demand for tax exemption for the World Cup between the BCCI and the government. However, the government has not taken any decision yet. If the central government also gives a 10% tax exemption, the board will have to pay around Rs 226 crore. At the same time, in the event of no exemption, BCCI will have to pay 906 crore rupees for the World Cup. The board is talking to the central government to give exemption in this.
