According to the plan the government is planning to introduce Metro service after the coron virus lockdown, tokens can be stopped for some time and people will be able to travel only through contactless smart cards. An official associated with the case has given this information.
The magnetic strip card can be recharged and it charges the fare at the access gate. But the token passenger has to buy every time he starts the journey and for this there is a long line at the counters of most metro stations.
The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is engaged in preparing the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for starting the Metro service after the lockdown. This includes a proposal to temporarily close tokens. The government is considering starting a metro service following social distancing to reduce the risk of spreading the corona virus. These measures also include distance between two passengers, their screening and crowd control at metro stations.
On the condition of keeping the identity confidential, an official associated with the matter said, "To avoid overcrowding on the counters, we are considering allowing travel in the metro only through cards. Also, ticketing will be made as contactless as possible. ”With the announcement of the lockdown at the end of March, metro services were banned across the country.
The official said that a meeting was held on Tuesday to discuss how to start the Metro service after getting exempted from the restrictions. He said, "We have to manage the crowd first and keep the frequency of trains according to the crowd."
"There is no reservation in the metro like the railways so that we know how much congestion is going to come," said the official. These months of the year were more crowded, as schools and colleges reopened. This time it will not happen, but it depends on what is said in the guidelines to resume offices. ''
According to the official, a plan will be prepared to start the metro service accordingly. He said, "We have to devise methods regarding social distancing. We are also studying the countries that have started the service by removing the ban. Guidelines may be ready this week. ”However, it is not clear whether public transport will be exempted after May 3.
