Kolkata, March 22 (IANS) Asserting that judicial reforms were essential in a country plagued by numerous pending cases, the Trinamool Congress manifesto Saturday promised of working on systematic changes in the judiciary.

"Judicial reform is essential and is one of our topmost priorities. Millions of cases are pending in courts and people are not getting justice," West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said while unveiling the manifesto.

"We will set up a review committee to bring in pro-people systematic changes in the judiciary," the party supremo added.

Emphasising on the need for setting up more fast-track courts for expeditious trial of cases, Banerjee also talked about setting up an exclusive women's court.

"Justice denied is justice delayed. So, to ensure speedy justice in cases of atrocities against women and culprits are meted out strong punishment immediately, we believe time has come for setting up an exclusive women's court," said Banerjee.

The manifesto stressed on revamping the colonial-era criminal laws in the modern context and framing stringent legislations to tackle atrocities on women.

It also talked about a new forward looking motor vehicles law as well as new forest laws aimed at restoring the rights of tribals and forest dwellers.

The manifesto also proposed to bring in a new law for the judicious use of natural resources as well as stringent legislations to prevent adulteration of food, medicines and fuels.
