CPI (M) has announced a boycott of vote counting in Tripura by-elections alleging large-scale rigging. "We will boycott the counting of votes as the Election Commission did not take steps to prevent large-scale rigging in the Tripura by-elections," the CPI(M)-led Left Front announced on Thursday (September 7).

Voting was held on Tuesday for the by-elections on Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly seats of Sipahijala district of the state. On average, voting was 86.50 percent on both the seats. The Left Front accused the Election Commission and said that there was large-scale rigging during voting.

Left Front convenor Narayan Kar alleged on Wednesday night, "We drew the attention of the Election Commission to this right from the beginning of voting. But, sadly, no steps were taken by the Commission to stop large-scale rigging." "

Elections should be canceled and voting should be held afresh – Left Front

He said, the Left Front has demanded cancellation of the elections and fresh voting, but the Election Commission has refused to take any step in this regard. Narayan Kar said, "The objective of the Election Commission is very clear. In such a situation, what is the point of participating in the counting of votes on September 8? Therefore, we have decided to boycott the counting."

Let us inform you that by-elections are being held here due to the death of CPI (M) MLA Samsul Haq from the Boxanagar Assembly and Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik's resignation from the post of MLA from the Dhanpur Assembly. BJP's Tafazzal Hussain is contesting against CPI(M)'s Mizan Hussain from the Boxanagar seat. Out of a total of 43,087 voters here, 66 percent are minority voters.
