Kolkata, Feb 17 (IANS) A trooper was killed and three were grievously injured Tuesday following an altercation between the paramilitary personnel that led to a shootout in West Bengal's Malda district.

The incident happened inside a camp of the 20th battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) when one of the troopers opened fire at his colleagues after a heated argument. The other troopers fired back, but he managed to escape.

"One head constable was killed on the spot while three of our troopers are battling for their lives in a hospital," a BSF official told IANS.

"It's not a case of fratricide, but it is a shootout which took place following a heated argument. The killer constable is on the run...," added the official.
