Ahead of the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Army on Tuesday issued a message reiterating India’s unwavering stance against terrorism. In a post released on social media platforms, the Indian Army’s message stated: “When the boundaries of humanity are breached, the response is decisive. Justice is delivered. India stands united.” This message encapsulates the spirit behind ‘Operation Sindoor’—India’s historic military operation launched in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Terrorists Shot Victims After Asking Their Religion
During this terror attack, which took place in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam—nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir—terrorists opened fire on tourists after first inquiring about their religious affiliation. Images and videos of this attack deeply shook the entire nation. According to victims and numerous eyewitnesses, the terrorists specifically targeted men; if a victim refused to disclose their religion, they were ordered to recite the Kalima (Islamic creed), and upon their failure to do so, they were brutally murdered.
The Indian Army’s ‘Operation Sindoor’
Operation Sindoor was launched following an incident on April 22, when a group of terrorists—who had infiltrated from Pakistan—attacked Indian citizens and tourists vacationing in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, brutally killing 26 people. In the wake of this barbaric terror attack, the Indian Army was granted full operational freedom to take action by all means necessary. Fifteen days later, on May 7, the Army launched Operation Sindoor, successfully neutralizing terrorists and destroying their hideouts located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Recently, Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi revealed that deliberate attacks were avoided during the hours of Namaz (prayer) throughout the operation—a fact that underscores the emphasis placed on precision, restraint, and humanitarian considerations. The Army leadership has characterized Operation Sindoor as a sustained effort, signaling a more resolute and enduring phase within India’s national security doctrine.
Pahalgam Terrorists Eliminated in ‘Operation Mahadev’
The three terrorists responsible for claiming the lives of 26 innocent people in Pahalgam were neutralized by the Indian Army during ‘Operation Mahadev,’ and their involvement in this attack has been scientifically corroborated. Home Minister Amit Shah shared this information in the Rajya Sabha during a special discussion regarding India’s robust, successful, and decisive ‘Operation Sindoor,’ undertaken in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. According to the Home Minister, three terrorists—identified as Suleiman, Afghan, and Jibran—were killed during ‘Operation Mahadev’ in a joint operation conducted by the Army, the CRPF, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Suleiman was an ‘A-category’ commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Our intelligence agencies possess substantial evidence establishing his involvement in the terrorist attacks in both Pahalgam and Gagangir. Afghan and Jibran were also classified as ‘A-category’ terrorists.
The Pahalgam Terrorist Attack, ‘Operation Sindoor,’ and the Ceasefire
On April 22, terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, brutally murdered 26 innocent individuals (comprising 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali citizen) who were vacationing in the area. Fifteen days after this terrorist attack—on May 7—the Indian Army, under the aegis of ‘Operation Sindoor,’ destroyed nine terrorist hideouts located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). This operation resulted in the elimination of several notorious terrorists. Subsequently, relations between the two nations deteriorated, eventually reaching a critical flashpoint—a level of tension not witnessed in two decades. Meanwhile, following attempts by Pakistan to target Indian cities, India’s air defense systems successfully thwarted all incoming attacks and delivered a fitting retaliatory response. This was followed by a crushing counter-attack by India, during which 14 Pakistani military installations were demolished. Rattled by these developments, Pakistan proposed a ceasefire to India on May 10; following mutual consultations between the two nations, the ceasefire was subsequently implemented.
