Actor-turned-politician Vijay has started entering Tamil Nadu politics. His party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), will start its political innings in the assembly elections to be held next year. Meanwhile, Vijay urged the people to help him decide the candidates in all the constituencies of the state. During a rally in Chennai last evening, he announced that he will contest from Madurai East. He said that the public will have to vote with the understanding that he is the candidate in all the seats of Madurai. People should vote for TVK only, no matter who the candidate is.
'No interest in becoming subordinate to AIADMK and DMK'
Speaking at a party conference packed with thousands of fans in Madurai, he ruled out any alliance with the ruling DMK or the BJP and insisted on contesting the elections alone. Vijay made it clear that he is not interested in becoming subordinate to the established Dravidian parties of the state like AIADMK and DMK. He said that I am a lion. I am marking my territory. TVK is an unstoppable force that is here to establish dominance. His stance towards the BJP has also ruled out the possibility of an alliance with the AIADMK, the BJP's ally in the state.
'There will be no alliance'
He reiterated, "There will be no alliance." He stressed that the 2026 election in Tamil Nadu will be between the DMK and TVK. Vijay, 51, reiterated that his only ideological enemy is the BJP and the only political enemy is the DMK.
'TVK's politics is real, emotional, and for the betterment of the people.'
The actor said, "TVK's politics is real, emotional, and for the betterment of the people. Our priority is the safety of women, the elderly, and children. Our government will remain a friend of all those who need special attention, such as farmers, youth, transgender persons, neglected elderly, and physically challenged people." Asked the central government to take action on these issues
He also spoke on popular issues like the return of Kachchatheevu and the cancellation of the medical entrance exam NEET, and asked the central government to take action on these issues. He said, 'The Sri Lankan Navy attacked 800 fishermen from Tamil Nadu. Take back Kachchatheevu (island) and give it to us to ensure the safety of our fishermen. Cancel NEET! Can you do this, Narendra Modi ji?
Why select Madurai?
The ancient city of Madurai is considered the capital of Tamil heritage. It is the center of Tamil politics. Considered a stronghold of the AIADMK, the city is now occupied by the DMK. selecting this city for his party's second state conference is being seen as a symbol of Vijay's confidence. It is being seen as a political message to southern Tamil Nadu and an attempt to consolidate anti-DMK votes.
