
New Delhi, March 22 (IANS) Two people have been arrested here for cheating hundreds on the pretext of reviving their lapsed insurance policies, police said on Sunday.
Asif Kamal, 27, a resident of New Seelampur in Delhi, and Kuldeep Kumar, 19, a resident of Etawa in Uttar Pradesh, were taken into custody on Saturday.
Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav said: “These criminals had cheated hundreds of innocents on the pretext of reviving their lapsed insurance policies and providing them holiday packages on attractive rates."
Police seized two mobile phones and 132 cheques worth crores of rupees from them.
Police said that Kamal had worked with HDFC Life, a life insurance company, as a manager. He had procured the details of those whose policies had lapsed there.
Yadav said that the two men used to target policy holders residing in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chhattisgarh.
“They used to ask people to send in cheques through courier. They had opened an office near Bhikaji Kama Place (in Delhi) to receive the cheques. They would encash them.
"They used to change their correspondence address at regular intervals,” he added.
