Former Australian batting great Damien Martyn is currently battling a serious illness, meningitis. He is admitted to Gold Coast University Hospital and is currently in a medically induced coma. The cricket world is concerned about his health, but former wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist has provided some reassuring news.

 

 

Gilchrist Gives Positive Update

Adam Gilchrist, speaking to Fox Cricket on January 1st, said that there have been some positive signs regarding Martyn's condition. He said, "Several test reports have come in over the last 24 hours, and they have shown positive signs." However, he also clarified that Martyn is still in the hospital and further information will be released in due course.

 

 

Condition Worsened on Boxing Day

Damien Martyn was admitted to the hospital on December 26th, Boxing Day, after his condition suddenly deteriorated. Doctors then decided to place him in intensive care and induce a medical coma. His condition has remained critical since then.

 

 

Prayers Pouring in from Around the World

As soon as the news of Martyn's illness broke, messages of support and prayers started pouring in from the cricket world. Former Indian batsmen VVS Laxman and Ravichandran Ashwin also wished him a speedy recovery. Laxman wrote on social media that the entire cricket fraternity stands with him during this difficult time.

 

 

Australian Legends Also Express Support

Damien Martyn's former teammates Darren Lehmann and veteran broadcaster Jim Wilson also sent their prayers. Former Test bowler Rodney Hogg called the news shocking and expressed hope for his quick recovery.

 

 

A Story of a Brilliant Career

Damien Martyn is considered one of the most elegant stroke-makers in Australian cricket history. He played 67 Test matches between 1992 and 2006, scoring 4,406 runs. With a brilliant average of 46.37 and 13 centuries, he was a crucial part of Steve Waugh's formidable team. He retired from international cricket during the 2006 Ashes series.
