Samajwadi Party (SP), which is working hard to form the government in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, has given birth to a new equation by not fielding a single Yadav candidate in the seven assemblies seats of Deoria district this time. In Deoria, SP, changing its old strategy, has done this experiment in this election in an attempt to reach Brahmins and non-Yadav voters of backward classes. Electoral analysts believe that the SP is following the strategy of taking the non-Yadav backward castes and Brahmins along with it to cross the road in this area.
SP has fielded non-Yadav backward in 3 seats, Brahmins on two, Scheduled Castes on one, and Muslim candidates on one seat out of 7 seats here. Experts believe that the SP, which has been recognized as a party of Muslims and Yadavs, has given special attention to non-Yadav backward, Dalits, and upper castes, especially Brahmins, this time.
Party strategists believe that Yadavs and Muslims are already with it, but to gain power, this strategy has been adopted because of the abundance of non-Yadav backward castes in the region. The party believes that its objective can be achieved with the support of all backward castes and Brahmins. In the 2017 elections, SP had given a ticket to only one Brahmin Ashutosh Upadhyay from the Bhatparrani assembly seat of Deoria. The SP had won only in this one seat. Whereas all other SP candidates including two Muslim candidates were defeated in the election. In such a situation, SP has given full force to woo non-Yadav backward and Brahmins in this election.
Under this, SP has given a ticket to the candidate of backward class caste in Deoria Sadar, Sainthwar in Deoria Sadar, Nishad in Rudrapur, and Jaiswal in Barhaj in 7 assembly seats of Deoria district. Bhattarai and Pathardeva assembly seats have fielded Brahmin candidates, while one seat has been given to Muslim women in Rampur Karkhana and Dalit candidates in Salempur, a reserved seat.
