Representatives of controversial self-styled godman Nithyananda's so-called country 'The United States of Kailasa (USK)' attended a meeting of the United Nations last month. This partnership has surprised many in India. All the members of this delegation were women. Nithyananda had posted pictures of the delegation on his Twitter account. Vijayapriya Nithyananda was also among the members of the delegation. She has become the face of the first participation of 'Kailasa' in the United Nations.
Vijayapriya spoke during a discussion organized by the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (CESCR) and demanded protection for the "Supreme Bishop of Hinduism". He said that Nithyananda was being persecuted and banned in the country of his birth for reviving the ancient traditions of Hinduism.
Who is Vijayapriya Nityananda?
Dressed in a sari and turban and decked in jewellery, the woman introduced herself at the UN meeting as the "Permanent Ambassador of Kailasa to the United States". According to her Facebook profile, she lives in Washington. A large tattoo of Nithyananda can be seen on Vijayapriya's right arm in their pictures uploaded on social media platforms.
According to Vijayapriya's LinkedIn profile, she holds a BSc Honors in Microbiology from the University of Manitoba. She was included in the university's Dean's Honor List in June 2014. The LinkedIn profile further mentions that Vijayapriya is fluent in four languages – English, French, Hindi, Creole, and Pidgin (French-based).
There is also a website of 'Kailasa', in which it is mentioned that Vijayapriya Nithyananda makes agreements with organizations on behalf of her country. On February 24, at the United Nations meeting, he met representatives of several countries and shared pictures on his social media handles. Several other photographs showed Vijayapriya signing the agreement with some officials. According to him the people who signed the agreement were Americans. The website of 'Kailasa' also claims that they have embassies and NGOs in 150 countries.
What did the United Nations say about his statement?
A UN official said that they would ignore statements made by representatives of this fictitious country. The UN also says that his views regarding the issues being discussed are "irrelevant" and "superficial". India as well as the world is surprised by the presence of representatives of 'Kailasa' in the United Nations meeting. The Government of India has not yet made any comment officially on this matter.
Where is 'Kailasa' situated?
Please tell me that Nityananda left India many years ago. He has several cases registered against him in India, including rape and harassment. He has denied all the allegations.
According to information, after leaving India, he established 'Kailasa' in 2019 on an island off the coast of Ecuador. The country is named after the abode of Lord Shiva in the Himalayas. Ecuador had denied at that time that Nithyananda was in their country. His sermons are released on social media platforms. The self-styled godman has never appeared in public since 2019.
