Perth, Feb 28 (IANS) United Arab Emirates (UAE) skipper Mohammad Tauqir said Saturday that they were outplayed by the Indian bowling attack as they slumped to a nine-wicket loss to the defending champions in a World Cup Pool B encounter at the WACA here.
UAE, who opted to bat, never quite got going as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals to be bowled out for a paltry 102. In reply, India achieved their biggest World Cup win, in terms of ball remaining, as they romped home in only 18.5 overs.
"It was not a par score on this wicket, we were outplayed by Indian bowling. They bowled really well, in good areas, we should have scored 200-plus," said Tauqir at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked up career-best figures of 4/25 while pacer Umesh Yadav and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja too chipped in with two wickets each.
"(Ashwin) bowled brilliantly. We couldn't cope with his bowling. He was getting good bounce and turn on this wicket. The top order needs to be more responsible and score more runs for us," he concluded.
UAE next play Pakistan at McLean Park in Napier March 4.
