Nursing Courses Admission: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to direct the Center and the Indian Nursing Council to conduct additional mop-up rounds for filling up seats in nursing courses in Delhi for the academic year 2021-22.

A vacation bench of Justices MR Shah and Aniruddha Bose dismissed the petitions of St Stephen's Hospital College of Nursing and Angela Biju. The petition had sought a direction to reopen the admission process for nursing courses for the academic year 2021-22 on the ground that around 110 seats in the Delhi Nursing Institute remained vacant.

The admission process for the Nursing course in Delhi for the academic session 2021-22 was to end on March 31, 2022. The petitions have alleged that since the timetable for the two government nursing colleges was extended from March 31 to May 15, 2022, therefore, such relief may also be given to St. Stephen's Hospital College of Nursing. But the bench, while dismissing the petitions, said that the admission process cannot be endless.

Earlier, in a similar case related to NEET PG counseling 2021, the Supreme Court dismissed the petitions seeking to conduct another round of counseling. Against the petitions, the central government, the Medical Counseling Committee, and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) had on Wednesday informed the apex court that it has completed four rounds of online counseling for NEET PG-21 and due to the software shutdown, the special Stray vacancies cannot fill 1,456 seats by conducting counseling rounds.

Also, the court was told that the studies had started long back. It will be difficult for the fresh candidates to study separately and cover up the missed syllabus. On this, the Supreme Court dismissed the petitions seeking a special round of counseling and said that the quality of medical education cannot be compromised which affects public health.
