After all, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the country on 14 April, announced to extend the lockdown till 3 May. During this time one thing came as a surprise. That is why the lockdown was extended till May 3, while estimates were being made for two weeks and many states also extended the lockdown till April 30. Government sources have given reason for this.

The states were being asked by the central government to extend the lockdown by April 30 itself. However, PM Modi extended the lockdown till May 3 instead of April 30. On this, government sources said, 'May 1 is a public holiday, May 2 is a Saturday and May 3 is a Sunday. For this reason, the lockdown was extended till 3 May instead of 30 April. According to government sources, more people can opt out during the three-day holiday. So that there will be no social distance. Because of this, the lockdown has been extended until 3 May.

Where it was possible that soon PM Modi could come and address the country and move the lockdown forward. It was hoped that on 12 or 13 April, they could announce an increase in lockdown. However, he addressed the country on 14 April i.e. the last day of lockdown (first phase). The idea of increasing the lockdown was given by CM Kejriwal of Delhi as soon as the conferencing was over. He had tweeted that PM Modi took a good decision by increasing the lockdown.

Apart from this, Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa also said after the end of the video conferencing - in the next 1-2 days, the Government of India will announce the guidelines for the next 15 days. The Prime Minister has said this in video conferencing. From this it was confirmed that the decision has been taken to move the lockdown forward.
