OnePlus has officially revealed the design, colour options and memory configurations of its upcoming flagship smartphone in China. The successor to the OnePlus 15 is now listed for pre-order in China, although the company has not yet announced the official launch date.
The OnePlus 16 is expected to bring several major upgrades, including a high-refresh-rate display, a new Snapdragon flagship processor, a large battery and an upgraded camera system. However, several of these specifications are based on reports and leaks and should not be treated as final until OnePlus confirms them.
The bigger question for Indian smartphone buyers is whether the OnePlus 16 will launch in India. At present, there is no official India launch announcement.
OnePlus 16 Design and Colour Options
The OnePlus 16 retains a design language similar to the OnePlus 15, with a flat frame and a square rear camera module with rounded corners. One of the notable additions is a customisable AI key on the left side of the handset.
The smartphone will be available in three colour options:
Tomorrow Starlight
Dark Forest
Martian Masterpiece
The Tomorrow Starlight version is the most distinctive of the three. It features an integrated rear lighting system that can illuminate the branding and celestial-coordinate elements, with the lighting designed to respond to events such as calls, notifications, music and other activities.
OnePlus 16 RAM and Storage Options
OnePlus has officially revealed four memory configurations for the Chinese market. The options include:

Top-end 16GB 1TB
The 16GB RAM + 1TB storage configuration is expected to be the top-end model. Pricing has not yet been officially announced.
OnePlus 16 Display: 165Hz Refresh Rate
The OnePlus 16 is officially teased with a 165Hz refresh-rate display. OnePlus has positioned the handset as a performance-focused flagship with particular attention to gaming.
Reports indicate that the handset could use a BOE X4 OLED panel and potentially offer refresh rates of up to 185Hz during supported gaming scenarios. The 185Hz figure should currently be treated as a reported specification, while the 165Hz refresh rate has been officially teased by OnePlus.
OnePlus 16 Processor
The OnePlus 16 is expected to use Qualcomm's next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro flagship processor.
The chipset has not yet been fully detailed by OnePlus, so performance figures and benchmark claims circulating online should be treated cautiously until the company officially announces the phone's complete specifications.
The Chinese model is also expected to run ColorOS 17 based on Android 17, according to current reports.
OnePlus 16 Camera Specifications
The OnePlus 16 is expected to receive a significant camera upgrade.
Current reports point to a triple-camera setup consisting of:
200MP primary camera
50MP ultra-wide camera
50MP periscope telephoto camera
The reported 200MP sensor is expected to be the headline camera upgrade, while the periscope lens could provide enhanced optical-zoom capabilities.
However, these camera specifications remain reported rather than fully confirmed by OnePlus at this stage.
OnePlus 16 Could Pack a 9,000mAh Battery
One of the biggest reported upgrades is the battery.
The OnePlus 16 is tipped to feature a 9,000mAh battery, considerably larger than the 7,300mAh battery reported for the OnePlus 15. Reports also point to 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The battery and charging specifications are currently based on reports and certifications rather than a complete official specification sheet.
OnePlus 16 India Launch: Will It Come to India?
The OnePlus 16 India launch remains uncertain.
The phone is currently listed for pre-order in China, but OnePlus has not announced an international or Indian launch date.
Adding to the uncertainty, a recent report citing tipster Yogesh Brar claimed that OnePlus could skip the OnePlus 16 in India and instead introduce the OnePlus 16R as its next flagship-tier device in the country. The claim has not been officially confirmed by OnePlus.
Therefore, Indian buyers should not treat reports of an upcoming OnePlus 16 India launch as confirmed information yet.
OnePlus 16 Launch Date
OnePlus has not announced an official launch date for the OnePlus 16. The smartphone is already appearing on the Chinese pre-order platform, while previous reports have pointed towards an October 2026 launch window in China.
Any specific September or October launch date should therefore be treated as an expected timeline until OnePlus makes an official announcement.
OnePlus 16 vs OnePlus 15: Key Expected Upgrades
The OnePlus 16 appears to be following the OnePlus 15's overall design philosophy while increasing the emphasis on battery capacity, display refresh rate, camera hardware and performance.
The reported 9,000mAh battery, up to 16GB RAM, 1TB storage, 200MP camera and next-generation Snapdragon processor could make it a significant hardware upgrade on paper. However, the final specifications and performance can only be assessed after the official launch.

The OnePlus 16 is now officially confirmed to have a new design, three colour options and four memory configurations in China. The top model will offer 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, while the Tomorrow Starlight variant adds a distinctive illuminated rear design.
At the same time, several headline specifications—including the 9,000mAh battery, 200MP camera system and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro—are still based on reports. The company's official 165Hz display teaser and Chinese pre-order listing provide firmer information about the device's direction.
For India, the situation remains unclear. A report has claimed that the OnePlus 16 could be skipped in favour of the OnePlus 16R, but OnePlus has not officially confirmed this strategy. Indian buyers will therefore need to wait for an official announcement before drawing conclusions about availability.
