America is ready to do anything to stop China. However, America knows that this is not possible without India's help. In such a situation, he is agreeable to accepting every condition of India. Its meaning was visible when the US House of Representatives made a big decision in favor of India. The House of Representatives has approved a proposal to amend the National Defense Authorization Act.
This resolution excludes India from the purview of the US's 'Counting America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA). That is, if India buys weapons from Russia, then America will not have any problem with it. The special thing is that this proposal was brought by Indian-American lawmaker Ro Khanna, which was approved by the lawmakers of both parties.
Ro Khanna is an Indian-American politician and lawyer. Since 2017 he is also a Democratic Party MP from California. He was born on September 13, 1976, in Philadelphia in an Indian Punjabi Hindu family. His parents are from Punjab in the US. I came and settled. Ro Khanna's father is a chemical engineer who graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and then the University of Michigan. His mother has been a teacher. Khanna also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the United States Department of Commerce under President Barack Obama from August 8, 2009, to August 2011.
Now know what is CAATSA law?
Under this law, the US takes preventive measures against the purchase of weapons from its rival countries. The US imposes sanctions under CAATSA on countries that have transactions with Iran, North Korea, or Russia. India had signed a deal with Russia for the S-500 missile defense system. In such a situation, India also came under the purview of these restrictions.
Why did Ro Khanna bring this proposal?
Taking India's side in this matter, Ro Khanna had said that India needs heavy Russian weapon systems for its defense needs. Therefore, he should be given exemption from restrictions under CAATSA. Given the close partnership between Russia and China, it would be in the best interest of the US-India defense partnership to deter aggressors. India signed a $5.43 billion deal with Russia in October 2018 for 5 squadrons of S-400 air defense systems.
Why was America imposing sanctions?
India signed a $5.43 billion deal with Russia in October 2018 for five squadrons of S-400 air defense systems. Since then, the US is considering action under the CTSA Act. At the time of the deal, then US President Donald Trump had also threatened India with sanctions for this deal. However, India continued with the deal despite this.
How will it affect China and Russia?
After the resolution is approved by the US House of Representatives, it has to be passed in both houses of the Senate. Only then will it get legal recognition. If this happens, then India will continue to buy arms from Russia without any worries. This will directly affect China. The stronger India becomes in terms of arms, the more aggressively China will be forced to leave and negotiate.
