Meteorological Department officials said on Tuesday that Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, North Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat will remain cold for a day or two.
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature will drop by 2 to 3 degrees in the plains of North-West India. Between January 12 and 15, cold wave conditions are expected in isolated areas of Punjab, North Rajasthan, Haryana, and Chandigarh.
The Meteorological Department said that light to moderate rain with lightning and hail is also expected in Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Vidarbha, Telangana, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh till January 14. On Thursday, there may be heavy rain in Odisha and Telangana. Thunderstorms are possible over Tamil Nadu, Karaikal, Puducherry, Kerala, and Mahe till the end of this week.
Due to the Western Disturbance or Western Disturbance passing through the northern parts of the country, the cold has increased in North India. Two more such Western Disturbances are expected to pass between January 16 and January 18. Due to this, light rain may again occur in the western parts of the Himalayas.
What is Western Disturbance
A Western Disturbance or Western Disturbance is a tropical storm that occurs in the equatorial region. Due to this, there is sudden rain in the west and north parts of the Indian subcontinent during the winter season. Whenever the Western Disturbance passes over the sea, a cyclone is formed by the winds. This is called cyclonic circulation. In this circulation, there is a mixture of air and moisture, which further leads to rain. This disturbance comes from the west in India, hence it is called Western Disturbance.
