President Droupadi Murmu will present Silver Trumpet to bodyguards today, ex-servicemen will parade for the first time

President Draupadi Murmu will present the Silver Trumpet and Silver Banner to the President's Bodyguards (PBG) at a function to be held in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 27. For this, a full dress rehearsal was done on Wednesday. The PBG will accept the President's Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner in the one-and-a-half-hour-long ceremony. During the ceremony, for the first time, ex-servicemen will be paraded and LED lights will be displayed on horses for display.

 

There will be an audio-visual presentation after the parade

The presentation parade will be followed by an audio-visual presentation highlighting the history and importance of the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner and the modern role of PBG. Professionally honed and trained with precision, horsemen will display a variety of traditional Indian equestrian skills, followed by horses to the music of a military band.

PBG has a long history

 

The President's bodyguard has a long and rich history, beginning on 30 September 1773 at Benares.

 

It is the senior-most regiment, having the distinction of being "right of line" on all ceremonial occasions.

 

The PBG performs the dual role of ceremonial functions in Rashtrapati Bhavan as well as operational functions with para formations to be issued by the President of India.

 

The Regiment has a carefully preserved rich heritage nurtured over the years and will celebrate 250 Years of Celebrations (Sestercentennial) in the year 2022-2023, which will be a landmark event for the Regiment and Rashtrapati Bhavan.

 

Traditionally, all mounted units carry a trumpet.

This tradition of the presentation of the silver trumpet and trumpet banner began in 1923 when the bodyguard completed 150 years of honorable service. After independence, when India became a republic, the first silver trumpet and trumpet banner presentation took place on 14 May 1957 when Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the President of India. Since then 13 presidents have presented the banner.
