World Cup: India in the final after 12 years, took revenge for the 2019 defeat from New Zealand; Shami dominates after Kohli-Iyer

India has made it to the finals of the World Cup. They defeated New Zealand by 70 runs in a thrilling match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday (November 15). With this victory, Team India also avenged the defeat against New Zealand in the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup. The Indian team has reached the final of the tournament after 12 years. Last time in 2011, Team India made it to the title match on home ground. The team under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni became champion. The Indian team will now play Australia or South Africa in the final to be held on November 19.

 

India has reached the World Cup final for the fourth time. In 1983, under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, the title was won for the first time by defeating West Indies. Had to face defeat in the final against Australia in 2003. Sourav Ganguly was the captain then. Eight years later, in 2011, when India reached the finals, it defeated Sri Lanka and won the title for the second time.

 

Kohli-Iyer and Shami led to victory

  Batting first, India scored 397 runs losing four wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. In response, the New Zealand team was reduced to 327 in 48.5 overs. The contribution of Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Mohammed Shami was important in India's victory. Kohli played an inning of 117 runs and Iyer played an inning of 105 runs. At the same time, Mohammed Shami showed amazing bowling skills and took seven wickets. Together, all three did not allow India to lose in the semi-finals for the third consecutive time. Team India lost in the last matches against Australia in 2015 and New Zealand in 2019.

 

Rohit-Gil gave an aggressive start

India made a great start by winning the toss and batting first. First Rohit scored runs at a fast pace and then Gill batted aggressively. Rohit completed his 50 sixes in the World Cup and the team's score crossed 50 runs in the powerplay. Rohit Sharma was out on a personal score of 47 while trying to hit a six off Saudi ball. However, in the powerplay, Team India managed to score 84 runs at the loss of one wicket. Gill and Kohli took India's score beyond 150 runs. During this, Gill completed his half-century in 41 balls. After scoring 79 runs in 65 balls, Gill got troubled by the heat of Wankhede. He was having cramps and went out of the field.

 

Kohli and Iyer took the team to a big score

Virat Kohli along with Shreyas Iyer took India's score beyond 200 runs. He completed his half-century in 59 balls. During this time, he also became the batsman who scored the most runs in a World Cup. He left behind Sachin's record of 673 runs. Virat and Shreyas made a century partnership and took India's score beyond 250 runs.

 

Virat scored his 50th century in ODI and took India's score beyond 300 runs. He was out after scoring 117 runs. After this Shreyas Iyer became even more aggressive. Together with Rahul, he took India's score beyond 350 runs. After this, Shreyas completed his century in 67 balls and was out after scoring 105 runs in 70 balls with the help of four fours and eight sixes. Suryakumar, who came to bat in the 49th over, was out after scoring one run. In the end, Lokesh Rahul along with Shubman Gill ended the Indian innings. Rahul batted brilliantly in the last over and took India's score to 397 runs. He remained unbeaten after scoring 39 runs. Whereas, Shubhman Gill remained unbeaten on the score of 80 runs. For New Zealand, Tim Southee took three wickets and Trent Boult took one wicket.

 

Mitchell could not lead New Zealand to victory

Daryl Mitchell scored 134 runs for New Zealand. Captain Kane Williamson played an inning of 69 runs. Glenn Phillips contributed 41 runs. Both Kiwi openers Conway and Rachin returned to the pavilion with a score of 13 runs. Mohammed Shami took seven wickets for India. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav got one wicket each.
