AAP sweeps to 67 Seats polls in Delhi Election

Posted on 10th Feb 2015 06:28 pm by rohit kumar verma

AAP, which was heavily criticised for stepping down from office after 49 days in power last year, on Tuesday made an impressive come back in the Assembly Elections, winning 67 of the total 70 seats in Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal will take an oath as Delhi Chief Minister On 14th FEB 2015.

Addressing thousands of cheering supporters at the AAP office in central Delhi, Kejriwal described it as "a victory for truth and honesty" and said an Aam Aadmi Party government would work in a manner that both the poor and the rich would be proud of Delhi The Aam Aadmi Party swept the capital state by breaking the 60-seats ceiling.  Arvind Kejriwal won the New Delhi seat by 31,000 votes over BJP’s Nupur Sharma.

Previously, all the exit polls have given AAP a decisive edge over BJP with one of them giving it as high as 53 seats in the 70-member House. But no agency came close to guessing the 67 number the party won. With BJP just winning three seats, they fell very short of their estimate of 34-38 seats.

The 46-year-old then introduced his wife Sunita to the frenzied crowds chanting "Paanch Saal Kejriwal!" slogans and waving hundreds of party flags and brooms -- the AAP election symbol. "This is my wife," he said, putting his arm around her shoulders. And as she folded her hands in greeting triggering a roar, he added: "I would have never been able to work if she had not supported me."

With the AAP setting the tone, and the Congress and BJP reluctantly taking its cue, this campaign was fought on bijli-sadak-paani-sewer issues and on the daily corruption and harassment faced by the aam aadmi because of an absent or abdicating government.

For the AAP, the challenge of proving that it can be a party of government, not just of insurrection, will begin now. The BJP will have to ask itself whether arrogance and complacence have begun dimming the sheen of its 2014 victory.

While in the BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) Kiran Bedi lost from Krishna Nagar by 2277 votes, which was considered to be a BJP bastion until now.Kiran Bedi said “Party didn't ask for any money from me and accepted me the way I am. I am thankful for all the respect and love I've received from BJP members.” Bedi extended congratulations to the AAP and Kejriwal for the emphatic win. She hoped Kejriwal and his team will fulfil the poll promises and work for the poor.

By apologised to the BJP leader and party workers Kiran Bedi said“ I will fulfil the expactation of the party leaders and the workers; I think I haven't lost, I would have lost if I hadn't given my best. The BJP will introspect.”

When asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi was responsible for the Delhi poll debacle, Bedi Said, “Modi ji wasn't the CM candidate, I've taken responsibility for the loss. I am happy to be a member of a strong national party.”
