Today—May 2nd—between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM, if you suddenly receive an emergency message on your phone accompanied by a loud beep, do not panic. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Government of India, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), is conducting a mock drill for the ‘Cell Broadcast Alert System.’

 

 

The first alert was sent earlier today, leaving many people confused about what action they should take. This is merely a test designed to ensure that, in the event of any future disaster or emergency, people can be informed in a timely manner. What to do when you receive an alert?

 

Do not panic – This is strictly a test message; therefore, there is absolutely no need to be alarmed or frightened.

Read the message – Carefully read the pop-up message that appears on your screen; it will clearly state that this is a ‘Mock Drill.’

Click ‘OK’ – Once you have viewed the message, you can dismiss it by clicking the ‘OK’ button provided on the screen.
