On Wednesday, a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck the coast of Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula, creating a stir in the Pacific region.
This earthquake was so powerful that tsunami warnings were issued in many countries. Alarm bells are ringing on beaches like America, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, Ecuador, and Hawaii. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), this is the most powerful earthquake in this region since 1952.
At least six earthquakes were recorded on the coast of Kamchatka throughout the day today, with a magnitude of 5.4 to 6.9. However, all of them were less powerful than the 8.8 magnitude earthquake. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has warned that waves higher than 3 meters may rise in some coastal areas of Russia and Ecuador.
Trump said - Japan is also in danger.
Amid the threat of a tsunami, US President Donald Trump posted on X and wrote, "Due to the massive earthquake in the Pacific Ocean, a tsunami warning has been issued for those living in Hawaii. Tsunami monitoring continues in Alaska and the Pacific coast of the United States. Japan is also in danger. Stay strong and stay safe."
Many countries are in fear of a tsunami.
After the tsunami warning in Hawaii, sirens were sounded in Honolulu, and people were asked to move to higher places. The center said that 1 to 3-meter-high waves could hit Hawaii, Chile, Japan, and the Solomon Islands.
Japan has also issued a tsunami warning for many areas, including Tokyo Bay. The disaster management agency in New Zealand has warned of "unusual and strong currents" in coastal areas, although there is no need for evacuation there yet.
In the Philippines, the seismological agency PHIVOLCS has advised people in coastal areas adjacent to the Pacific Ocean to stay away from the beaches. There is a possibility of tsunami waves less than one meter high here. At the same time, a tsunami watch has also been issued in some parts of Guam and Alaska.
There is also a danger in Ecuador and Alaska.
A tsunami advisory has been issued in California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, South Alaska, and the Alaska Peninsula of America.
The US National Weather Service has issued a tsunami watch from the California-Mexico border to Chignik Bay in Alaska. On the other hand, Ecuador has also been included in the list of countries vulnerable to tsunamis, where waves higher than 3 meters can become a threat.
The regional department of the Geophysical Service of Russia has described this earthquake as the most powerful earthquake since 1952. This earthquake, which occurred southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in Kamchatka, has alerted the entire Pacific region.
Tsunami warning in Indonesia too
Indonesia's Geophysical Agency has issued a tsunami warning after a powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Russia. The agency has warned that waves less than 0.5 meters high could reach parts of Indonesia on Wednesday afternoon. The agency said in an official statement that coastal areas of Papua region, North Maluku, and Gorontalo provinces could be affected.
Appeal to people to be cautious
After the tsunami warning, people in many countries are following the advice to stay away from the beaches. In Hawaii, people are moving to higher places, while in New Zealand, people have been asked to be cautious in coastal areas.
In Japan, too, people are on alert in Tokyo Bay and other coastal areas. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center is constantly monitoring the situation and appealing to people to remain calm and be cautious.
