The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is going to launch a satellite on Wednesday evening. This satellite is special in many ways. It took about a decade and a half to build this satellite, and this is also the first time that the Indian agency ISRO and the American space agency NASA have jointly built this satellite. The name of this satellite is NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite). The successful launch of this satellite will mark the beginning of India's and America's partnership in the field of space.

Under Mission NISAR, the satellite will be placed in a sun-synchronous orbit, from where the entire Earth can be monitored. The NISAR satellite is made up of an exchange of human skills and technical skills between the two space agencies for more than a decade. The total weight of the NISAR satellite is 2,393 kg, and it is 51.7 meters long. This satellite will be launched on Wednesday at 5.40 pm with the GSLV-F16 rocket. The countdown for the launch started at 2.10 pm on July 29. ISRO said that this mission has been divided into several phases. The first phase will be the launch. The second phase will be the deployment of the satellite in space, then the satellite will be commissioned, and then the last science phase will begin.

Why is the NISAR mission special?

ISRO has sent such missions (Resourcesat, RISat) to study the Earth earlier, but they are mainly focused on the Indian region. ISRO said that the goal of the NISAR mission is to study the whole Earth, and this will benefit the scientific community of the whole world. NISAR satellite will help in studying climate change on glaciers located in the Himalayas and Antarctica, the North and South Poles, the condition of forests, changes in the condition of mountains, etc. Also, the objective of the NISAR mission is to study the condition of land and ice, land ecosystems, and marine areas in areas of common interest of the US and Indian scientific communities. It will also help in predicting disasters.
