GT vs SRH: Gujarat beat Hyderabad by 34 runs, and became the first team to reach the playoffs, Shubman Gill scored a century

In IPL 2023, on Monday, Gujarat Titans defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs. With this victory, Gujarat has become the first team to reach the playoffs. Gujarat has 18 points after 13 matches. This team is at the top of the points table. At the same time, with the defeat, the doors of the playoffs have been closed for Hyderabad. Batting first in this match, Gujarat scored 188 runs for nine wickets. In response, the Hyderabad team could score only 154 runs losing nine wickets and losing the match.

 

Shubman Gill scored 101 runs with the bat for Gujarat. There, Sai Sudarshan played an inning of 47 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took five wickets for Hyderabad. Marco Jansen, Fazalhaq Farooqui, and T Natarajan got one wicket each. Klaasen scored 64 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar scored 27 runs for Hyderabad. At the same time, Shami and Mohit Sharma took four wickets each for Gujarat.

 

The Gujarat team recovered from a bad start

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram won the toss and called Gujarat to bat. Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the third ball of the very first over, but after that Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan took charge. However, it cost Hyderabad dearly to miss the opportunity to run out of Sudarshan during this period. In the fourth over, Gill hit Fazalhaq Farooqui for four consecutive fours. Gujarat's score in Powerplay was 65 runs for one wicket. In the very next over, Gill completed his half-century in 22 balls, in which he hit nine fours.

 

147-run partnership between Shubman and Sudarshan

Gill and Sudarshan batted extremely fast. In the 10th over itself, both of them took Gujarat's score beyond 100 runs. Both completed the century partnership in 57 balls. Sudarshan, like Gill, was also nearing his half-century, but on the first ball of the 15th over of Jansen, he was caught by Natarajan in the course of hitting a boundary. He scored 47 runs in 36 balls. Shubman and Sudarshan shared a 147-run partnership for the second wicket.

 

Gill scored his first IPL century

After Sudarshan's dismissal, Gujarat lost wickets at regular intervals. In a span of 28 runs, Gujarat also lost the wickets of Hardik (8), Miller (7), and Rahul Tewatia (3). Gill then completed his first century of IPL in 56 balls in the 19th over, in which he hit 13 fours and a six. As soon as he completed his century, he got out after scoring 101 runs in 58 balls. Gujarat scored just 41 runs in the last six overs and lost eight wickets. Apart from Gill and Sudarshan for Gujarat, no batsman could touch the figure of Dahai. Five batsmen of this team could not even open their accounts.

 

Four wickets fell in the last over

Four wickets fell in the last over of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Of these, three were named after Bhuvi and one was run out. Bhuvneshwar took five wickets in an innings for the second time in his IPL career. Hyderabad bowlers bowled brilliantly in the last overs. For this reason, the Gujarat team, which scored 154 runs in two wickets in 15 overs, could only score 188 runs in 20 overs losing nine wickets. Apart from Bhubaneshwar, Marco Jansen, Fazalhaq Farooqui, and T Natarajan took one wicket each for Hyderabad. Gujarat's last eight wickets fell for 41 runs.

 

Bad start for Hyderabad

Chasing the target of 189 runs, the start of Hyderabad was also very bad. In the very first over, Anmolpreet Singh became the victim of Shami by scoring five runs. In the very next over, Yash Dayal got Abhishek Sharma caught by Saha. After this, Shami dismissed Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram to reduce Hyderabad's score to 29/4. The Hyderabad team was able to score only 45 runs in the powerplay.

 

After this Sanveer Singh became the victim of Mohit Sharma. Abdul Samad was also dismissed by Mohit after hitting a boundary. After losing six wickets for 49 runs, Hyderabad's defeat was decided. Although Heinrich Klaasen held one end, the batsmen were out at the other end. After Samad, Marco Jansen was also dismissed after scoring three runs.

 

Klaasen's half-century

After falling seven wickets for 59 runs, Heinrich Klaasen handled the innings along with Bhuvneshwar. Both made a half-century partnership and took the team's score beyond 100 runs. During this, Klaasen also completed his half-century in 35 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes, but it was not enough to achieve the target of 189 runs.

 

Heinrich Klaasen was also dismissed in the 17th over of the innings in an attempt to hit a six off Mohammed Shami. As soon as his wicket fell, the way for Gujarat's victory was cleared. After this Bhuvneshwar was also dismissed after scoring 27 runs. In the end, the Hyderabad team could only score 154 runs after losing nine wickets. Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma took four wickets each for Gujarat. Yash Dayal got a wicket.
