Indian Cancer Society (ICS), India's largest cancer-fighting NGO, celebrated World Cancer Day by launching an unprecedented mobile app 'Rise Against Cancer'. The Made in India app aims to bridge the knowledge gap, raise awareness, and unite concerned communities to achieve a cancer-free India. Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center (RGCIRC) and Roche Products (India) Private Limited also extended their support to this campaign.

Every year millions of people get cancer

According to Globocan data, about 13 lakh people are diagnosed with cancer every year. If we look at the figures of lives lost due to this, then in the year 2020 alone, about 800 thousand people died due to this disease. Understanding the seriousness of the figures, ICS has set a mission to reach 50 percent of the total adult population in the next decade. It will provide accurate information and advice about cancer to detect the disease early and start treatment without delay.

Patients will get accurate guidance

Mrs. Usha Thorat, National Managing Trustee of the Indian Cancer Society, said, 'Cancer remains a serious problem facing the entire world. The lives of millions of people all over the world including India are badly affected by this. Therefore, the Delhi branch of ICS has taken the initiative and decided to take advantage of mobile technology in its prevention. With this, cancer patients and their families will easily get complete information and accurate guidance.

Available in five languages

Thorat further said, 'As representatives of the National Management Committee of ICS, we are very happy to launch this app today. The app will be available in five languages – Hindi, English, Kannada, Marathi and Bengali. We are confident that other features and languages will be added in the coming phases.

On this occasion, Mrs. Jyotsna Govil, President of ICS Delhi Branch said, 'ICS understands the needs of the community and the need of the hour very well. Therefore ICS has been successful in preparing this mobile application very meticulously.

This is the specialty

The objective of the 'Rise Against Cancer' app is to enable cancer patients to understand and fulfill their responsibilities towards health. The app has different sections like an information center, resource library, events, community, and support groups. There are also sections for news and updates. The app is currently available in five languages and currently provides information about four types of cancer.

Work on the Close the Care Gap theme

ICS has been providing cancer prevention, treatment, financial support, and post-treatment support for more than seven decades. It provides very useful data through cancer registry services and publishes the Indian Journal of Cancer. Working with the theme of World Cancer Day 2024, 'Close the Care Gap', ICS has launched this app which is a tool to empower patients and communities in the fight against cancer and is available in multiple languages.

ICS a ray of hope for cancer patients

On this historic occasion, Dr. Anita Borges, National Vice President of ICS, said, 'It is a matter of great pleasure for us to launch the mobile app Rise Against Cancer today. ICS has been at the forefront of the fight against cancer for the last seven decades. ICS is a ray of hope for thousands of cancer patients from deprived sections. Often, regular check-ups and treatment of people are not possible. But we are confident that if we continue to make such tireless efforts together, people will get the courage to stay 'two steps ahead of cancer'. Cancer will be detected soon and treatment will also start soon.

Speaking at the launch, RGCIRC CEO Shri D.S. Negi said, 'We are determined to fight cancer and understand the importance of treatment for its prevention. Congratulations to the entire team of ICS team on the launch of their mobile app 'Rise Against Cancer'. This app will be effective in increasing awareness and information about cancer prevention.
