Due to the lockdown, the Supreme Court has given an important order on Tuesday about migrant workers stranded in various states across the country. The court said that the migrant laborers should be sent back to their homes within 15 days.
The Supreme Court said in the order, "All the cases under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 should be withdrawn against the workers who were allegedly violated during the lockdown."
The court has asked the Center and the states to prepare a list for identifying migrant laborers in a systematic manner. The court has also asked the governments to give relief to the workers on the issue of employment by skill mapping.
In the last days of March, the central government implemented a nationwide lockdown to prevent the corona virus, which was increased to 30 June. However, Unlock-1 has also been implemented since June 1. Due to lack of employment during the lockdown, lakhs of laborers were trapped. After this, many laborers started walking to their homes on foot.
However, later on May 1, the Central Government started operating Shramik Special trains for migrant laborers. Railways had claimed that lakhs of laborers have been transported to their homes through these trains so far.
